For Luke this is probably not an awful outcome cos it's a suspended sentence so that means he won't be going to prison, at least not yet anyway. He's got community service but according to Emmerdale's portrayal that just consists of litter picking and painting . But for Daria fans I think it's probably going to mean no more Daria at all . I think it's unlikely Luke will return because I doubt they will have him back during the next two years in case he ends up going to prison at short notice. I hope I'm wrong but I can't see him returning while he's on a suspended.

Does that mean he has to go to prison for 9 months or is it just community service? I dont think that Emmerdale will take him back sadly. Maybe his twin might take over the role. It so depressing that there will be no daria ever again!

This acticle has just been posted, it's a bit more detailed than the DS one. www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/article2402848.ece £40,000 a year on a huge show like Emmerdale! I hope he realises what he's thrown away, and hopefully he won't do anything like that again. I thought the Judge's comments were quite interesting. It may mean the producers would consider having him back in the future if he proves it was a complete one-off. I guess we'll just have to wait and see

It so depressing that there will be no daria ever again! As far as I understand a suspended sentence means you don't go to prison unless you commit another offence, however small. So if he were to commit any crime within the next two years he would then have to serve the 9 months in jail. That's my understanding anyway (I studied A level Law a couple of years ago). The community service and fines have been imposed definately though, but I suppose that's nothing compared to going to prison. I think he's actually been quite lucky given the circumstances.

But that article does go into great detail, I cant believe he stamped on him after he punched him, thats a bit cowardly The Judge seems to understand that something may have happened to the lead up of the incident, he did get off lcuky though, but he has to be on his best behaviour for the next 2 years and stay out of trouble, I think he should just stay in for the next two years, to be on the safe side

I honestly don't have a clue what to think. I hope he comes back but I can't see it happening. There's been quite a lot of press on this since he was sentenced, although ironically I think them sacking him has brought it to public attention a lot more I'm actually quite confused about the judge's comments. This arcticle from the BBC news news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/8024774.stm includes even more of the dialogue. I can't understand whether she's saying he's mature and remorseful or whether he's a viscious person It seems a very conflicting assessment to me. If only the car had kept on driving this wouldn't have happened then Luke would still have his job and we would still have Daria.

wow the outcome turned out better than expected
I dont know but I dont see the judges comments that bad towards him ,there could have been worse said it wasnt that bad,it almost did come across as it was being said that he deserved a second chance with things, and it does seem like maybe theres more thats happened that hasnt been said in the media as from reading it it does seem like that.
and yeah it means hes to be in his best behaviour for two years I guess and if he is then he probably then wont have to go to jail
my dad said that he wouldnt be suprised if emmerdale did let him back as the judges statements towards luke wasnt in a way that would be deemed as awful well acording to my dad and that there are some praise in the statement towards him taking responsibility for what he did.
My dad also did say how itv shot the gun a bit by washing their hands of him as even the judge seems way more fair than itv and understanding and even though he had obviously made a mistake and did wrong least he admited it . lol when he said this I was sat nodding my head at how right he is lol

Yea I agree they should have at least waited til he was sentenced before making a decision about whether he would return. That could have been difficult though if he'd been sent to prison trying to arrange meetings with Luke and his agent to discuss his future on the show.
I think they may wait for a while and see how his behaviour is and if he's really trying to make amends. A return for Daz may also depend on what their plans for Vic and Aaron are. I don't think they'd risk a public backlash bringing him back if he wasn't going to be an important character with big storylines.
If Ben Freeman returns they could look at the reaction to that to decide whether bringing Luke back would be a good idea. Obviously their cases are different but I think there's a strong public opinion on both actors. If Ben was welcomed back by the viewers then maybe they would consider bringing Luke back as well.

The Judge does seem to be telling Luke what he did was wrong and he should have thought before he done anything, the Judge does seem to give him a second chance, but it depends on what ITV want to do, whether they deem him taking responsibilities for his actions as good behaviour , whether they go ahead with bringing him back the time he was supposed to or just leave it until another time. If they bring back Ben in the Summer, which is when Viv Hope is out of jail, then the public may get behind Luke being brought back, which could mean late 09 when I think Diane gets back with Louise from Australia

Wow, i also agree that his outcome turned out better than i thought, not sure if i agree with the sentacing, i mean i love Daria and Daz, but i feel his should have gone to jail, even for a few months, as what he did really serious * i hate writing that, as Luke seems really sorry for what he has done, etc*, i do believe Luke does regret what he has done, and could have rejoined Emmerdale in a year or so, even 2.

if he has recieved a suspened sentence it usually means that he was provoked by his victim
